It's curious how the Republicans claim to be the party of 'family values'. They claim to be the 'moral' party, when in fact they are just the opposite. They are the party of corporate greed, plain and simple.
Let's examine a slew of issues and you'll see my point:
Environment: Seems to me the environment is all about family values. How about ensuring clean water for your kids to drink? About as basic an environmental issue can get. But for Republicans, the "environment" is a "left-wing agenda". The Republicans are trying to protect corporate America from having to spend a dime on keeping their factories from polluting the air and water. I guess Republicans don't care if their kids drink fecal contaminated water. Those are not family values.
Minimum wage: Republicans fight this tooth and nail each time it comes around every few years. Why? Corporate America comes again, claiming they would have to lay off millions of workers. History shows this does not happen, but they keep claiming it each time. Now then, what is the minimum wage all about? The poorest Americans, who are working and trying to dig themselves into a better life. These are also millions of families, that Republicans do not care about. Those are not family values.
Health care: Republicans, once again are fighting not for families, but for Corporate America, aka the health insurance companies. This is one of the most obvious cases where Republicans do not care about families. They do not care about the millions of families who do not have, and cannot obtain health insurance. They do not care about the thousands who die each year because of no health coverage. Those are not family values.
Hypocrites: "Family Values" Republican Mike Duval.
Global Warming: The Republicans have been standing in the way of this for decades, claiming (once again) that global warming is a made up "left wing agenda". Now reality is starting to catch up to them, and even some are reluctantly admitting it is real (or look like the morons they really are to the public who are now witnessing the polar ice caps and million year old glaciers melting). The first thing George W Bush did in office was to back out of the Kyoto Treaty on global warming, making Corporate America smile. Again not a family value, if you care at all about your kids and grandchildren.
Education: Here again, the Republicans are not about families, but about defending corporations. The Republican answer - vouchers and tax credits. A tax credit of $2,000 is not $2,000 in cash, but a reduction in your AGI, and converted to cash, is an average of $300 a year. See how many college classes you can squeeze out of that. Those are not family values.
The Republican motto to all of this is to just DENY, DENY, DENY. There's nothing wrong with the environment or our current health care system. Denial is not a family value.
Bottom line, the Republicans are not about families at all. They are all about corporate greed, pure and simple.
